DOH Acknowledges use of Tawa-Tawa vs. Dengue Fever

Even here in the former land of milk and honey, I have seen many reports on the onslaught of Dengue Fever in the Philippines.

The DOH has finally recognized the use of the Tawa-Tawa (Gatas-Gatas) weed as an alternative herbal medicine against Dengue Fever. Though it doesn't fight the virus, it has properties that increases platelets and rehydrates early-stage patients.

Here's how the Tawa-Tawa weed or plant looks like:

Here is how to prepare the concoction taken from a fellow blogger:

  1. Take 5 to 6 full whole Tawa Tawa plants.
  2. Cut off the roots
  3. Wash and clean
  4. Fill your boiling pot with clean water.
  5. Boil the Tawa Tawa for 1 (one) minute in a slow rolling boil.
  6. Pour the tawa tawa water and let cool.
  7. Let the dengue fever victim drink only the tawa tawa water for 24 hours.
  8. Sip 1 to 1.5 glasses of tawa tawa water every 1 hour
Be safe!
